  • The conflict with the Mormons may not amount to much after all, especially if the Mormons’ claim that they had nothing to do with the destruction of government trains cannot be disproved. The president will recommend the repeal of the organic act of Utah and the territory will become unoccupied public land. It is noted that however distasteful the practices of the Mormons are, they cannot be “proceeded against” unless they violate law. An apostate Elder Hyde is lecturing on polygamy and the Mormons in Maine.
