  • A correspondent writes from Nauvoo that Joseph Smith, Jr., the son of the late prophet, is understood by Saints in Nauvoo to be his father’s successor. A delegation from Salt Lake has come to Nauvoo to persuade Joseph to assume leadership of the Church in Utah, and the author hopes that he will do so and make a reform among the Mormons in Utah. Saints in Nauvoo, however, think that Joseph should stay and call the faithful to him.
