  • A dispatch describes the movements of various troops in the Utah army. The Mormons have moved to Provo. Major McCulloch believes that the Mormons deserted Salt Lake City to keep their women from encountering the gallantry of American soldiers and to keep the Saints from seeking the protection of the army. He also believes the Mormons should not have been allowed to gather their crops.
