  • A summary of Colonel Johnston’s letter to the War Department. More volunteers have been engaged in the service of the army in Utah. Johnston requests that Colonel Huffman be sent to Fort Laramie to oversee the movement of supplies for the army. The army at Fort Bridger has been supplied with fat beef from a settlement 250 miles north of Salt Lake City.
