  • Reports from Salt Lake City indicate that all is peaceful among the Mormons and that all is mostly peaceful among the Indians. Many areas of the territory are being settled. The article gives information about the taxable property and revenues of territory. Governor Young is trying to end the practice among the Mexican population of purchasing Indian children for slaves. Young claims that the $20,000 given to Utah Territory by Congress was not squandered but was used to purchase the State House of Deseret.
