  • The Deseret News has described gold as a god that people worship. The Saints are to be kind to those who are passing through Utah to find gold in California. The Saints should pray to be kept from temptation; those who have been hoarding their goods to sell to traders instead of paying a full tithe and supporting the public laborers should repent. The Deseret News declares that there is no reason for the government to send troops to Utah and that all is peaceful in Utah.
