In his ongoing criticism of Mormonism, Henry Rowe addresses the Mormon doctrine of polygamy. He explains that the “spiritual wife doctrine” commenced with a revelation given to Joseph Smith that commanded the elders of the Church to take multiple wives to bring more spirits into their “tabernacle of clay.” The Mormon men disavow the practice in public but participate in it privately. Rowe discusses briefly Parley P. Pratt’s charges against Elder Adams. Rowe then mourns the hypocrisy of “holy hypocrites” and warns women to turn away from Mormon doctrines.
