Dirie, Waris.; Women diplomats - United States - Biography.; Somalia - Social life and customs.
General; Adult
Although Waris Dirie fled her homeland, she never forgot the country and culture that moulded her - a world of famine and violence, where women have no voice. As an international model, Waris was the face of Revlon. In 1997, as part of its campaign to eliminate female genital mutilation, the United Nations appointed her Special Ambassador for Womens̉ Rights in Africa. This is the story of her return to Somalia where she traces the roots of her courage and home.
