Major Warren has made a visit to Nauvoo with a writ for the arrest of Jack Redding. The Twelve “seemed to be very passive and submissive” toward Warren. The Twelve were not able to deliver Redding because he had gone to Michigan, but they promised to aid Warren if necessary in future arrests. The article expresses the frustration of those opposed to the Mormons’ actions: “If the Mormons would act with consistency—if they would defy authority and stick to it, instead of crouching like whipped spaniels when an issue is about to arise, they would long since have been driven from the state.”
