  • It is rumored that the Mormons are leaving Salt Lake City for the White River Mountains. Governor Cumming, escorted by Porter Rockwell, Egan, and other Mormons, has been welcomed to Salt Lake; Cumming reports that the city is generally peaceful. General Persifer F. Smith, the Commander of the Utah forces, has died and will be replaced by General Harney.
