The St. Louis New Era reports that Sheriff M.R. Deming shot Dr. Marshall, “one of [the] very best citizens” of Warsaw. The murder was the result of a dispute over the reimbursement of some land that Dr. Marshall had purchased. Deming is a “Jack Mormon,” friendly to the Mormons, and Thomas Sharp writes an expose condemning Deming, who is now in custody. An article from the Warsaw Signal is reprinted as found in the New York Commercial Advertiser (7 Jul 1845).
