Notes
  • Birgitte Feiring argues that many anthropologists find themselves caught in double-bind situations when working in the realm of development. The anthropologist legitimizes the power and discourse of development even in an attempt to change the relations of power constituting ‘development’. Or the anthropologist maintains an external critical position – thereby not changing anything at all. These double-bind situations ultimately lead to schizophrenia. Feiring explores some of the double-bind situations she has encountered in her own somewhat schizophrenic position as a political activist, a practitioner of development and a student of anthropology. Development (2000) 43, 26–31. doi:10.1057/palgrave.development.1110192
