  • The Mormons’ recent decision to remove themselves from Illinois is “not so much in consequence of recent events, as it is said, [but] was conceived by Joseph Smith, some time before his death.” Their destination is Vancouver’s Island in Oregon. General Hardin is keeping 100 troops to keep peace in Hancock County; those who burned Mormon houses, along with other violators of the law, are now being arrested.
