Two Mormons, William H. Reddin and his father, Geo Grant Reddin, have been put on trial as accessories in the murder of Colonel Davenport and accused of maintaining a station house for robbers, thieves, and murderers. The St. Louis Republican reports on the rescue of Reding [Jack Redding]. Colonel Warren has confronted Brigham Young about an assembled force of armed Mormons in Nauvoo, arguing that such assemblies are against Governor Hardin’s orders. Young, with Elder Taylor, has ridiculed the court and other state authorities and has insisted that the Mormons will not allow any other arrests to be made in Nauvoo. A deputy has arrived in Nauvoo with a writ for Young’s arrest for counterfeiting the U.S. coin, but the arrest was deferred by outcry of Mormons against it. The trial of Backenstsos for the murder of Worrell has been removed to Peoria County.
