  • An Anti-Mormon posse from Carthage is encamped on the Fort Madison road, en route to Nauvoo. They will remain there until they receive more reinforcements and some heavy artillery from St. Louis. They are well supplied with provisions by citizens of the county. Colonel John B. Chittenden has been taken prisoner by the Mormons, and citizens at a meeting in Quincy have decided to effect his release through conferring with Colonel James W. Singleton.
