  • George Q. Cannon, Utah’s delegate to Congress, speaks about the George Reynolds case. Reynolds had volunteered to be tried for polygamy because Mormon leaders believed that the Supreme Court would rule anti-polygamy laws unconstitutional. Cannon is astonished that Reynolds was convicted, and he regrets encouraging Reynolds to take part in the test case.
