Summary
  • Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach that has gained recognition for facilitating the transfer of evidence into quality clinical practice. It is a clinical framework that uses current empirical evidence in conjunction with clinical judgement and patient values in order to provide the most appropriate care. It has a significant effect on clinical domains, management and policies, and its influence can be seen in many of the major healthcare systems across the world. Major healthcare organisations are emphasising the importance of EBP in developing countries. Despite increased accessibility, a gap continues to exist between the published literature and the actual use and uptake of evidence in the everyday practice of health care professionals. Most healthcare professionals in developing countries face various challenges in order to implement EBP.
