  • A festival has been held in Kanesville upon the arrival of A.U. Babbitt, the Congressional delegate from Deseret. An extract of his speech gives a brief history of Deseret and its future as “the Kingdom of God.” The people of the state have sacrificed much for their country and hope to one day be admitted to the Union. A letter from Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, and Willard Richards describes the progress and the peace that have been sustained in Deseret. As soon as the people are able, they will send help for the poor to be able to join them in the valley of the Great Salt Lake.
