  • "Instead of partaking of the inoffensive character of self delusion, [Mormonism] is the very hot bed of murder lust, and robberies of the most fearful and depraved class." The Louisville Bulletin "contains some most shocking developments" from Bennett and a Miss Brotherton. Bennett "shows, pretty conclusively," that the attempted assassination, on ex-Governor Boggs of Missouri, was instigated by Joseph Smith. Indeed if half that is alleged is true,... the country should rise en masse, and exterminate the guilty leaders."
