  • The St. Louis New Era reports an arms scandal at Keokuk; Anti-Mormons seized arms and ammunition that were intended for the Mormons. When four Mormons found the arms missing, they made threats and were chased out of the city. "All experience proves that a separate religious political hierarchy, such as the Mormons, cannot peaceably remain in any part of our country."
