From 1 March 2013 tobacco retailers must ensure that all tobacco products are excluded from rewards and shopper loyalty schemes. An amendment to section 7 of the Tobacco Act 1987 will prohibit the supply of any benefit, coupon, voucher or other thing under rewards or shopper loyalty schemes operated by a retail outlet in connection with the sale of a tobacco product. This means tobacco product purchases must be excluded from rewards and shopper loyalty schemes that provide benefits to customers such as, but not limited to, rewards points and fuel discount vouchers.
