The article gives a brief history of Mormon polygamy and the government’s attempts to end the practice. Judge Mckean has recently arrested Brigham Young and convicted Thomas Hawkins of polygamy. Young is considered a murderer because he orders others to murder for him. He is being held prisoner in his house for charges of murder. The author also describes Salt Lake City, Young’s residence, and the tabernacle. The Mormons have little money and barter among themselves for needed goods. A brief history and description of Young is given. The article is accompanied by sketches of Brigham Young, Daniel H. Wells, George A. Smith, the tabernacle, the residence of Brigham Young, and the main street in Salt Lake City.
