James was educated in both the traditional Yolngu system and the missionary system. He has multiple higher education qualifications and currently works in the Northern Territory. His life has been a journey of finding ways to build bridges between two vastly different systems. In this book he tells the story of his learning journey from a young boy in Milingimbi with inherited traditional leadership, to a senior elder supporting his people through mainstream legal systems"---back cover.
