  • Joseph Smith has promised some prospective followers that an angel will appear across the river each time a person is baptized. At a baptism in Panesville, a figure in white did appear on the opposite bank of the river; several young men apprehended the angel, who turned out to be Joseph Smith himself. From the Rochester Rep.
