  • A comparison of Nauvoo as it was in 1846 and as it is in 1864. A detailed description of the Nauvoo Temple and the current ruins at the temple grounds. A discussion of a canal whose construction began under Joseph Smith’s direction. The Mormons who remain in Nauvoo follow the counsel of Joseph Smith, son of the original prophet; they are generally respected. Much of the land in an around Nauvoo has been converted to vineyards, a growing business there. Business is generally growing slowly in the area.
