Authorities in Missouri have gathered testimony against the Mormons to present to Congress as justification for their actions against the religious group. Some of this testimony is printed here. George M. Hinkle claims that the Mormons justify their plundering as a fulfillment of prophecy; Samuel Kinnible, John Whitnear, and William W. Phelps testify that they were forced to comply with Mormon leaders under threat of violence. Phelps further claims that Sidney Rigdon put several Mormons under covenants to kill all dissenters from and all outsiders of the Mormons. The Mormons teach that the Indians are to embrace Mormonism. Converts are arriving in Nauvoo from England. From the Vermont Chronicle.
