  • Letters from Missourians describe the state of the conflict between the citizens of Missouri and the Mormons, who have come to reclaim their land in Jackson County. Both the Mormons and the Missourians are prepared to fight. A small company of men have been sent to the Mormon camp to determine the intentions of the religious group; the response of the Mormon leaders is printed here. The Mormons want to become citizens of Missouri and to have the protection of Missouri’s laws.
