  • Speaker Blaine and Brigham Young have discussed the role of the U.S. government in Utah. Blaine informed Brigham Young that Utah will not become a state as long as the Mormons practice polygamy. In a trial about contested land, E. Corsa has testified that she is the polygamous widow of Winchester. The Bank of California may be interested in Utah mines.
