This report explores the characteristics and circumstances of young carers in Australia, defined as people under 25 years old providing informal care to people with disabilities or severe medical conditions and the frail aged. In particular, the report examines carers' reliance on welfare benefits during and after care. Information is provided on: receipt of carer payment and carer allowance over time, relationship to care recipient, ethnicity, location and housing, characteristics of carer recipients, care duration and dynamics, and post-care experiences.
