"The focus of the NSW workers compensation system is returning workers to health and work following a work- related injury. There is strong evidence that work promotes recovery and reduces the risk of long term disability and work loss1. Section 53 of the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998 (WIMWC Act) allows WorkCover NSW to institute, administer and coordinate re-education and rehabilitation schemes for workers. Current schemes include the Work Trial Program, retraining sponsorship, funding for equipment and workplace modifications, the JobCover Placement Program and the transition to work payment. The transition to work payment addresses any immediate or short-term barriers or needs that prevent an injured worker from accepting employment."--Introduction.
