Contains two reports of the expedition to find inland grazing land from the Spencer Gulf. The first report by Stephen Hack details his appointment as leader of the expedition, his commission and promised further compensation if he found suitable grazing lands, along with instructions and despatches. It has two lithographic maps attached printed by J. Brooks of Adelaide. The second report adds the observations of W.G. Harris, the surveyor to the expedition. Attached is a large folded map, "Map of a portion of South Australia, North-West of Adelaide explored by a party under Stephen Hack, Esq. 1857." Map signed by W.G. Harris. All the maps show detail of pasturage and water sources.
