  • Norma Beer, born in Donnybrook, Queensland (1942) discusses her family and family background; schooling and sports; beginning nursing training at age 18 at Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia; the Perth Commonwealth Games (1962); working with paraplegic athletes at those Games; graduating from nursing (1963); marriage (1964); children; nursing at Derby District Hospital; nursing at a ‘Native Hospital’; the Flying Doctor Service; nursing at Meekatharra District Hospital (1966-7); working in the Spinal Unit in Perth (1968-72); being employed by the W.A. Paraplegic and Quadriplegic Association as a Nursing Consultant (1975); extensive travel through W.A. to consult with clients; receiving a degree in Counselling; educating children about people with disabilities; working for the W.A. Wheelchair Association at sporting events.
