Estimation of market potential identifies specific business categories (e.g., computer stores) that have potential for further growth. Trade analysis of retail and service sectors in North Dakota shows that except in a few urban counties, such as Cass, Grand Forks, or Burleigh, these sectors were inefficient in retaining and attracting customer dollars. Market potential estimation of over 130 specific business categories showed that a considerable number of business categories have potential for further growth, e.g., computer and software stores, used merchandise stores, and heavy construction equipment rental and leasing services.
