This book brings together our understanding of the structure and properties of cellular solids and the way in which they can be exploited in engineering design. By unifying the modelling of many different types of cellular solid (for example, engineering honeycombs, foams, wood, cancellous bone, cork), similarities in the behaviour in these diverse materials are explained. Case studies show how the models for foam behaviour can be used in the selection of the optimum foam for a particular engineering application.
