sense. What I did say was "fellows of
his stamp should be shot, as they were a
curse to society," and no doubt they are. -

Sir.--In refutation of Mr Hammond's
attempt to mislead the public by publish-
ing what purports to show tho monetary
dealings between us, I am forced to state
out of his way to say what is untrue, and
by publishing half a balance-sheet-and
much of that, enigmatical-to lead the
public to believe that he and McLennan
played the part of the Cheeribal Brothers
to the late firm of Vogt Bros. Nor has
Hammond by his neat array of figures dis
ment made by me that he, while acting as
bookkeeper to the late firm of Vogt Bros.,
and at the same time being one of their
mortgagees, seems to have made his em-
ployers' books fir in with their ultimate
ruin. It is worth while remembering that
also secretary of the Bairnsdale Water
officer of the ratepayers at one and the
same time. Fortunately all payments
