DESERTING A CHILD.—Mary Holdaway was
charged with deserting her infant child. The
defendant's landlady stated that eight days
ago the defendant left the child at her house
saying she should be back in half an hour.
She had not returned since. The child had
been taken to the Lying-in Hospital, where it
was at present kept. Witness said that she
believed the child would have died had it not
after reprehending the inhumanity of the
defendant's conduct, required her to find one
care of the child for one month.
