A list of search engines for free access news items all over the world...
Also includes links to media associations, and directories of media sites.
Looking for a reliable Australian Internet Directory, but can't find one? Have you tried the library? Librarians are creating selected lists of internet sites for inclusion on their websites, and this is one of the internet's best kept secrets. Usually, these lists are kept in a small, inconspicuous link, somewhere at the bottom of a home page, so no one can find it, but if you do, you'll open up some of the best internet directories in the country to Australian websites. Often, University websites have the best managed internet lists, and these can be found via their 'Subject Guides' - use this saved Google search to find subject guides, and add your own search terms like Nursing, or "Real Estate". For New Zealand subject guides, use this saved Google search.
This list is not intended to be comprehensive, but offers some of the best Librarian created internet guides to websites in Australia that I have found in Australia, and New Zealand.
SOME OVERSEAS LIBRARY INTERNET GUIDES

This is a list of open access articles, ebooks, websites, related to library collection development. Much of the information in this list can be accessed from Trove using the fantastic articles search engine embedded in Trove, using the search term "collection development". Alternatively, use some of the free access search engines available on the Library Studies list.
Please note that the list is not in any particular order, although eventually will be in order by author. Also note that the list is not comprehensive - Trove contains much more than is here.
Primarily, this list is for items available on the topic of library studies from the Canberra Institute of Technology, the ACT Library Service, the Queanbeyan Library, or the National Library of Australia. I also hope the information in this list will be of use to others.
The list begins with saved searches of Trove and a list of subject headings useful for searching Trove.
The next section is a list of custom search engines, and LIS databases, which can help you find open access resources.
After this are links to LIS schools and associations.
Also included are links to some lists of open access resources in Trove and elsewhere.
The bulk of the list is made of items in Trove which are almost all available from the CIT Library, with some selected items available at the ACT Library Service, the Queanbeyan Library, or the National Library of Australia. Items are in Dewey order (to help with retrieval). Links to relevant online information is also included (some items will be available online so try a Google search).
(Living in Canberra we're lucky as the National Library of Australia is only a few kilometres away from the CIT and has by far the best collection of LIS resources in Australia - I haven't even tried to include them all in this list, but it is worth having a look using Trove at what the National Library has on the topics you are studying. By joining Trove, you get access to the 'My libraries' search, which will limit results to the libraries you have access to, and this can help when looking for resources. If you haven't already, it is worth joining the National Library of Australia as it allows you access to many of the databases they make available.)
"This State had been made by the goldfields ; the goldfields had been made by water, and the water was made to run from the metropolis to the fields by the determination and grit of the late C. Y. O'Connor." Gerald Strickland, Governor of W.A., 23.06.1911.
A list of items in Trove and elsewhere about The Pipeline, it's creator C. Y. O'Connor, and the goldfields...
