This incident is commemorated by an inscription on the south-eastern wall of the cutting which can still (21012) be discerned. The cutting is located to the north of Hill Top, on the southern side of the Big Hill cutting. It is depicted in Bayley, W. 'Picton-Mittagong Loop-Line Railway' , p. 40.

The William LENZ aged about 16 mentioned in this article of 15 March 1879 is Frederich (Wilhelm) LENZ (1863-1945) who married Fredericka Elizabeth BACHMANN on 18 April 1892. Frederich Wilhelm Lenz was a passenger, with his siblings and parents, on the maiden voyage of the Susanne Godeffroy.
