Australian Women's Register

Dame Margaret Guilfoyle was the first Australian woman to be appointed to a Cabinet portfolio when, in 1976, she became Minister for Social Security in the Fraser Government. On 31 December 1979 Margaret Guilfoyle was appointed to the Order of the British Empire (Dames Commander) for her services to public and parliamentary service.

    This series contains papers associated with the opening of the Chase-N.B.A. Group office in Melbourne in August 1982. The papers include a copy of the opening speech given by Dame Margaret Guilfoyle, background information for the speech (especially regarding the history of the building - the former Goldsborough Mort Wool Store), the guest list and the letter of invitation to Dame Margaret. The series also contains papers relating to the Victorian Liberal Party and a manilla folder of correspondence, agendas and reports related to the Victorian State Opera Board. All of the papers are contained in a yellow Unifile document wallet which has the misleading label "Recoupment Tax Legislation - National Speakers Notes". The papers are dated from August to October 1982.
