Doris Carter became Australia's first women's field athlete to compete at an Olympic Games when she placed sixth in the high jump at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. She also represented Australia in international hockey, and was General Manager of the Australian Women's Team at the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956. A Wing Officer and Director of the Women's RAAF, she was the first woman to fly both the Canberra Bomber and the Vampire Jet.
