The Department of Aviation was created in May 1982 to take control of civil and air navigation functions, previously undertaken by the Department of Transport. The 1987 re-structuring of departments ended the Department of Aviation's lifetime, all functions being transferred to the Department of Transport and Communications.
In 1987 Dept. of Aviation, Dept. of Communications and Dept. of Transport were combined to form the new Dept. of Transport and Communications. Works by these bodies are found under the name used at the time of publication.
