Harold Raggatt joined the Geological Survey of New South Wales in 1922 and in 1940 was appointed Commonwealth Geologist. From 1942-1951 he was foundation Director of the Bureau of Mineral Resources and until 1965 Secretary to the Department of National Development. He was educated at the University of Sydney (BSc, MSc, DSc) and knighted in 1963.
