Biographies

Graham Quint worked as a software development scientist for the CSIRO for almost 50 years, and over that time contributed to significant projects over various disciplines. He is known for his work on the highly secretive project to develop Australia's polymer banknote in the 1970s, and worked in particular on the development of optically variable devices to protect the notes from counterfeiting. In 1976 he and his colleague Alan Wilson made a breakthrough in the successful application of the electron beam lithography technology being used, which paved the way for the rollout of the note in 1988. It was the first polymer banknote issued to be issued by any central bank worldwide, and the technology went on to become the global standard.
