Biographies

Born 7 February 1904. Died 26 October 1994. Kt 1961. Educated Universities of Sydney (MB, BS 1927) and Cambridge (Diploma in Medical Radiology and Electrology 1933). House physician, house surgeon and radium registrar, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, assistant, Fondation Curie, Paris 1929-30, radium officer, Middlesex Hospital 1931-35, medical officer in charge of the radiotherapy department from 1936, medical commandant 1940-45, Director, Emergency Medical Service Radiotherapy Department, Mt Vernon Hospital 1940-46, Professor of Radiology (therapeutic), Middlesex Hospital Medical School, University of London 1942-69, Dean of the Medical School 1954-67, Vice-Chancellor, University of London 1969-72. President, Radiology Section, Royal Society of Medicine 1958-59, chairman, Radio-active Substances Advisory Committee 1961-70, National Radiological Protection Board 1970-, Academic Council, University of London 1967-69, Matilda and Terence Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology 1970-, Institute of Education, University of London 1974-, Council, Royal Society of Arts 1973-.
