a meeting of the New South Wales Commission for the Chicago Exhibition to-day, it was stated that the intention of the Executive Commissioners is to appoint the most skilful expert obtainable in America to classify wools sent from Sydney prior to conception by the jurors, and to fully report from his intimate knowledge of the requirements of the American market as to particulars of exhibits from this colony included in the display which may be suited to the wants of the American buyer.

A requisition has been largely signed by the Goulburn Synod and Cathedral Council asking Dr. Stanton, Bishop of Newcastle, to

allow himself to be nominated for the vacant see of Goulburn. 1 1 The

Newcastle' Marine Board his held an inquiry as to the condition of the ship Thosephane, which sailed on December 11 with a cargo of 2,128 tons of coal for Mollendo, South America, and has since been reported as missing. The Board found that the vessel was staunch and seaworthy in every respect, and not overloaded, and there was no reason to suppose she was not otherwise than in a safe sea-going condition.

The steamer Bellinger, recently 1 stranded Stradbrook at Island, is reported as having broken up last night.' ' '
