HITLER'S
DISREGARD OF
GENERALS
Command Change
Expío ¡ned
LONDON. Monday, AAP
The Titnet correspondent on the
German frontier gives the following
explanation why Gen Haider was
superseded by Gen Zeitzler as Chief
of the German General Staff:
"As this winter approached
Haider urged Hitler to abandon the
attempt, to take Stalingrad, and sug-
gested instead that he should fill
North Africa with men and planes,
at the same time allotting a substan-
tial portion of the Luftwaffe for re-
taliation raids against England.
"Haider, because of \he exhaustion
of German mineral oil reserves,
urged that the German offensive
should be focused on one vital point.
Hitler for political reasons insisted
that the assault on Stalingrad should
continue at all costs. Haider re-
signed early in September.
"Hitler, against the advice of all
his experts, is carrying on the war
as though his resources were still as
lavish as they were at the outbreak
of war, and as though United
Nations production had not over-
taken that of the Axis."
