BUSH FIRES

Raging in Many

Districts

DESPERATE EFFORTS TO

QUELL

SYDNEY, Friday.

Fires are still raging in the Hill Top district where 200 residents are fight-ing the flames. Forty men left to-day to reinforce 50 men, who went out last night and who had not returned. All telegraph and telephone lines are down and no news was received regarding the success or otherwise of their ef-

forts.

The bush fires are still burning in many places between Nowra and Mil-ton.

In Newcastle and Maitland districts great areas of bush country are in the grip of the flames. The home of A. Burgess at Brandon was destroyed. Fowls in the farmyard were roasted. The landowners offered 5/- an hour for assistance in the fight against the fire

at Seaham.

Yesterday's fire at Denman practi-cally burnt itself out. The damage is estimated between £12,000 and £14,000.
