ROUND OF PARTIES Flower-Decked Homes and Cafes

SATURDAY is always a popular day for hostesses to entertain in their own homes, and yesterday proved no exception, for there was a round of gaieties in homes and city cafes to bid bon voyage to those who will shortly leave for abroad, and to extend good wishes to brides-elect. Dahlias and golden zinnias were the favourite floral decorations, and were used to complete autumn-tinted colour schemes in lounges and diningrooms.

TJRONZE dahlias decorated the lounge and verandahs of 'Lock-leys,' the home of Mrs. B. Coomber, Wagner Road, Clayfleld, on Saturday afternoon, when, to bid bon voyage to Mrs. M- Brett and her daughter, Mrs. J. Stevens, who will leave on April D in the Strathnaver on a trip to England, she entertained a number of friends at afternoon tea. Bowls of yellow dahlias formed bright decorations on the- tea table. The hostess received her guests wearing a cream frock of crepe de Chine relieved with pleating. She was assisted in entertaining by her sister, Mrs. W. A. Dennis, who was f rocked in floral crepe de Chine patterned in blue. A ballibuntal straw hat and a nigger brown flat crepe frock relieved with a white spray was the choice of Mrs. Brett. Mrs. Stevens, who wore a frock of navy silk crepe patterned in white,' added a small stitched navy hat to match. The guests included Mesdames W. Brett, B. Brett, O. Nutting, w. Thompson, A. E. Sharp, W. Whitehill, J. G. Cribb, E. Banks, Hume Atherton, G. P. Bensted, Misses Joan and Jean Coomber, E. Thompson, Eileen Macdonald, and Eva Watson. Silver Boomerang Miss Marie Bergln, of Toomoo, Hamilton, entertained a number of Miss Alice Scanlan's friends on Saturday afternoon, prior to her departure with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat. Scanlan, on a world tour. A boomerang made of silver and franglpani was presented to the guest of honour. In the centre of the tea table was a large model of the Monterey, from which tiny coloured streamers reached to the place cards to which small globes of the world were attached. Novel posters of the world ports decked the walls of the lounge, where afternoon tea was served. Bridge competitions and music were enjoyed. The guests were Misses Sadie and Esther Tully (Congie station), Paula Boland, Mary Jones, Clare Macrossan, Margaret and ' Kathleen Murphy, Ivy Pearce, Madeline McGuire, Muriel Potter, Elizabeth Edwards, Kathleen, Dalian, Kathleen McDonnell, Olive Fanning, Elite Roberts, Bridle Webber, and Grace Helion. To Bid Farewell In honour of Miss Janet Stronach, who will leave shortly with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Stronach, to live in Mackay, Miss Ruth Tristram, assisted by her mother, Mrs. E. P. Tristram, and Miss Nancy Simpson entertained a number of friends at their home, 'Joruta,' Craven Street, Clayfleld, on Saturday evening. The lounge, where bridge tables were arranged was filled with bowls of golden glow. The guest of honour wore a powder blue chiffon frock featuring kilted trimmings. Mrs. Tristram chose floral patterned ninon relieved with silver lame. White chatty crepe sashed In red and white was featured by Miss Tristram, and Miss . Simpson chose blue floral chiffon. The guests included Misses S. Overell, Margaret Wood, June McCullough, Clare Maughan, Joan Powell, M. Selwood, Margaret McCullough, Messrs. Eric Dalby, David Annlng, K. Barber, Harry Gaydon, J. Pell, Jack Overell, and Keith Barnes. Two Guests of Honour Misses Doris Rudd and Myrtle McCartney, who will both be married in the near future, were the guests of honour at a party given by their fellow members of the Younger Set of the Coorparoo-Greenslopes branch of the Country Women's Association, on

Saturday afternoon. The roof garden at Atcherley Hotel was the setting, and after tea the guests of honour were presented with a crystal vase each. The president (Miss Phyllis McCartney), as hostess, wore a figured linen suit in jade and black, with a stitched hat of the same material. She was assisted by the secretary (Miss Eva Blake), who chose a black costume with a plaid taffeta blouse in red and white, and a small black hat. Miss Rudd 'wore a floral georgette frock patterned In red and white, and a black hat. A natural coloured linen suit, featuring a brown and white spotted blouse and a hat to match, was worn by Miss McCartney. The guests included Mrs. Stuart Johnson (president of the parent branch), Misses 'Marion Relf, Mary Guy, L. Arnold, Beryl McCartney, Auddrey Clarence, Joan and Dell Francis, I-. and Elsie Barrie, E. Francis, Hilda and Bertha Lupton, Grace Crouch, Enid and Eunice Carter. For Bride Elect ' In honour of Miss M Smith, who will be married shortly, the girls of the Telephone Accounts Department gave a party at Finney's Cafe on Saturday morning. Autumn-tinted zinnias and amber tulle decorated the table. The guests included Misses F. Dolan, J. Wilson, J. McConachie, E. Molloy, D. French, A. Emblem, J. McCook, P. McLead, N. Jakes, M. Harvey, A. Thomas, A. Affleck, M. Milligan, I. Conroy, M. Hanlon, and F. Hadden.
