DEATH OF COUNCILLOR

FENWICK.

We regret to announce the death of Councillor Orlando Fenwick, who for many years carried on business as a warehouseman in King-street, and subsequently in Flinders -lane. The deceased gentleman, who had been in ill-health for some weeks, died at his residence, Burwood, yesterday. He was born at Gravesend, England, in 1822, and came to Melbourne in 1852. He was elected a member of the City Council, and continued to hold a seat in the

corporation till his death. He occupied the position of Mayor of Melbourne in 1871-72,

and was for many years one of the most prominent members of the council. The funeral will leave St Paul's Cathedral for the Melbourne General Cemetery at noon today.

Ex-councillor Charles Smith will be a candidate for the seat in the City Council rendered vacant by Mr Fenwick's death.
