Death Of Mr. G. Proude

Old Identity of Port Lincoln District

The death occurred at the Port Lincoln Hospital last Monday of Mr. George Proude, aged 73, a well known and highly regarded resident

of the Port Lincoln district. The funeral left the Church of St. Thomas for Uxe Happy Valley cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. A. H. White officiating at the graveside. The universal esteem in which Mr. Proude was held was evidenced by the very large gathering of people who attended to pay their last respects, even including shearing acquaintances of his younger days. One old Port Lincoln resident said, 'I never heard a bad word said against George Proude.' Mr. Proude was born at Charlton, where his parents (the late Mr. and Mrs. William Proude) owned farming property, and about 20 years ago, acquired the old White's River homestead property owned by Mr. W. E. Goode. With his wife and one son

(Colin), Mr. Proude resided there till the time of bis death. His other son (Clarence) has been working the property at Charlton. . Mrs. Proude was formerly Miss Florence Watherston. .In In addition to a widow, two sons and two grandchildren, Mr. Proude is survived by the following sisters : — Mrs. G. Flavel of Charlton, Mrs. A. McNair of Unley, Mrs. W. Simes of Port Lincoln, Miss M. Proude of Glenelg,' and one- brother — Mr. Thomas Proude of Charlton. A deceased sister is the late Mrs. M. Elson of Wallaroo.
